What’s New in Worship & Arts

Hi. I’m Stan McGuire, the worship & arts director at Lazy Mountain Bible Church. I would like to take this opportunity to explain where I want to take the music department.

Specifically, I would like to share my vision of the praise team going forward.

This article is purposely short, meant to simply provide a brief overview and encourage you to meet with me one-on-one, where we can sit down and get to know one another.

While I enjoy meeting over coffee, tea, or food, I truly welcome the chance to meet and get to know you. Please make a point to hunt me down and introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting with you 🙂

Worship Leader (working definition):

But first, a definition… One of my favorite books is titled Worship Matters by Bob Kauflin. In it, the author provides an excellent working definition of a worship leader:

A faithful worship leader:

  • magnifies the greatness of God in Jesus Christ
  • through the power of the Holy Spirit
  • by skillfully combining God’s Word with music,

thereby motivating the gathered church

  • to proclaim the gospel,
  • to cherish God’s presence,
  • and to live for God’s glory.

I love this definition because it breaks the responsibility up to show both sides of the equation: me and you.

It is my duty to magnify the greatness of God in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, to you, the congregation, the “gathered church”.

But that is not an end in itself. It is for the purpose of motivating you into action. It is your duty to respond to the greatness of God by proclaiming the gospel, cherishing God’s presence, and living for His glory.

We both have our parts to play, and we must strive together doing kingdom work side by side.

Praise Team

It is my desire to provide the opportunity for all qualified singers and musicians to serve on the praise team. A “qualified” person is one who knows how to sing or play. If someone is not yet qualified, but wishes to become so, I encourage them to seek me out to see how we can best move forward. For more information about singers and musicians, please click here, or you can contact me directly: stan@lzymtn.com

For people wishing to serve on our technical team (soundboard and computer), prior experience is not required. We are willing to train the right individuals. For more information about the tech team, please click here, or you can contact me directly: stan@lzymtn.com

Together we make up one unified praise team consisting of many members. Each week a different set of members will work together to lead the music. As a team we will be striving to fulfill the first part of the worship leader definition (above), in order to inspire you to fulfill the second part of that definition.

If you want to join the team, please click here for more information. And, as always, you can contact me directly: stan@lzymtn.com.
